History

History of Del Norte

From humble beginnings, a great company

Del Norte Ambulance has changed dramatically since its start.

In the 1960s and mid-1970s, ambulances were operated from mortuary services. Medical care performed at the scene or in en route to the hospital was limited.

Over the next 10 years or so, ambulance service was provided locally by several owners.

But in 1985, Ron Sandler — moving from Southern California as a Paramedic with six years of experience — purchased Del Norte Ambulance. He immediately began a restructuring of DNA to include more modernized equipment and higher levels of training and professionalism.

In 1992, paramedic services were implemented. In 1996, Del Norte Ambulance built its headquarters in Fort Dick. This facility was the first in the county built specifically for ambulance service and support.

Today, at least three ambulances remain staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, with other units available as needed. Crews are trained to provide patients with professional, compassionate care in their time of need. Training available includes the Del Norte Ambulance training center with CEs provided, quarterly skills testing, the HSI Training site, CPR and first aid.

In 2019, Del Norte Ambulance reached a management with Metro West Ambulance, the largest private ambulance company in Oregon, providing new equipment, vehicles and business techniques.

Del Norte Ambulance and its employees remain dedicated to being important parts of the community. Its management team has served on numerous boards and committees, and all employees are encouraged to find ways to make our home a better place.

The aforementioned accomplishments — along with many others — have earned Del Norte Ambulance the recognition of continually improving the medical services for the community as well as its employees.

Del Norte Ambulance has been, is now, and will always be Dedicated to Serving.
